The money doesn't get re-allocated to build more buses, or trams, or orphanages - if Leeds doesn't spend it, it goes back into the national pot and gets given to some other city for their project.I agree that Leeds is hard done by at a national level, and I appreciate that, in people's opinion NGT *might* not be the best solution, but I really don't understand the "cut your nose off to spite you face" attitude on this whole thread. Why would you turn investment away from your city?

The reason why I'd object to it is because we'd never get any decent transport scheme if we end up with this pile of junk, were stuck with that forever, that would be the biggest mistake this city will ever make. I'd rather the money got waisted on anything, squander it, burn it, but don't spend it on off your trolley. In this case nothing is far better than something just for the sake of something.

Phil, that's not a logical statement. It doesn't get put in a bank account, waiting for grow to £500m so we can have trams in 2060. It goes to someone else. And why does it preclude us getting anything additional in the future? What are you hoping for? There's lots going on - the ITA has given support for Quality Contracts for buses, there's HS2 investment, along with re-franchising of the local rail providers in the next couple of years.Things move (probably too) slowly, but in times when investment is scarce, I think it's wrong to be sneering at funding that we can attract.

Really it's an easy to understand thing, if we get this we get nothing else.I for one am fed up with seeing other Cities miles ahead of Leeds, if they can do it then why can't we?We've been fobbed off with half do measures for decades, it's taken this long to get a decent concert arena. Leeds is a joke, and this is another pile of rubbish were been fobbed off with! The argument to get any kind of decent transport system once this is in place, well you've more chance of meeting Elvis down the chip shop It's funding they are giving us to shut us up so they don't have to pay more, that's the only reason we would get it, so we get a useless cheap transport system, while other cities get the real deal. What does a trolley bus do that a bus can't? Nothing.... even less than a bus in all honesty, it's tied to the wires like a baby clutching mothers apron string, then why waist millions on the thing????

I don't believe there is a "something else". What is it? A tram? been there, couldn't afford the £500m. Look at Edinburgh. Are they happy with their tram? An underground, a monorail, jet packs for all?Maybe if the NGT scheme goes in smoothly (granted, that's a big maybe), more schemes are approved? I don't disagree with your sentiment on the funding in Leeds being a joke. See the news on the LGI for more of it, but I do believe that some investment is better than none. If nothing else, it will create jobs in the construction and maybe an improvment in services.I can see we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one though, time will tell whether either of us change our minds :-) Edit - just seen your additional comment - I imagine it'll be to do with lowering carbon emissions, though I appreciate that electricity has to be generated somewhere. And to be fair, you could level the "wire" accusation at the trams.

You never put a house up for sale at reduced level, it always goes on the market with a well marked up price, if anyone is daft enough to buy it, then your laughing. It's just the same in life, never settle for second best for anything.I've said my piece on it too lol
