piquet That carving is lovely! Where abouts is it.What we call The Hollies was the Victoria and Bateman Quarries.Visit the Hollies and look at the Tennis Courts, from recollection they are cut into stone?Apart from the quarrying, there would have been need for very skilled stonemasons in that locality.Foxhill (now Moorlands School I think) was built for the Tetley Family and the stonework deserves inspection. With permissions.. and just over the road, Weetwood Hall owned by the Becketts. The walls, gateposts and gatehouses are demonstrations of stone skills.I think Leeds Civic Trust Bookshop had a publication on Meanwood Quarries and Quarrymen.Anyone?
