In a 'Now and Then' feature about The Headrow on page 18 of today's YEP (Sept 19 2016) it states "A narrow street originally known as the Upper and Lower Headrow, the road is where the new John Lewis will soon open". That is not on The Headrow! It is part of the Victoria Gate development that has a front on Eastgate which joins The Headrow at the Vicar Lane junction.

The 'Now and Then' is in a 'Monday Retro' feature in the YEP which is an interesting feature, so it's a shame that it fairly often has wrong information.

Talking of Victoria Gate, in some information that I've seen in the developer's website (Hammerson) it gives the name/address as "Victoria Gate. Victoria Road, Leeds, LS1 6AZ". Victoria Road is a new name to me!

LS1 6AZ is the post code for Harvey Nick's - Briggate/ Victoria QUARTER. Victoria Road is in Leeds 11 and runs from the Meadow Road/ Meadow Lane junction to Great Wilson Street just before the Water Lane junction. I had always thought it ran to what I have always known as Victoria Road Bridge, but according to various street maps that is not the case the continuation is Neville Street.

Thanks jim for that interesting information :).

Where some streets start/end can be confusing as I mentioned in a recent thread of mine about New Briggate and also the confusion of using North Street when it should be Meanwood Road. I'm lost as to what is exactly what bit at the New Briggate/North Street/Vicar Lane triple junction :?.

In my post earlier I stated "Talking of Victoria Gate, in some information that I've seen in the developer's website (Hammerson) it gives the name/address as "Victoria Gate. I now realise that I worded that poorly as I meant to say I had not heard of Victoria Road in relation to the Victoria Gate development area.

In a very brief item on page 11 of the YEP today (Nov 8 2016) it states "Loiners still have the chance to vote for the south entrance of Leeds Station as winner of an engineering award. The £20 project, which opened in January...".

The £20 typo made me :). Perhaps it was done on the cheap and £20 is correct! ;).

It's become too easy to poke fun at errors in the YEP and I do just ignore most. There is however a 'Quiz of the month' on page 16 of the YEP today (Nov 12 2016). I could answer correctly some of the questions but some I did not know. The answer to Q9 is stated to be "1936". I found that however to be a really hard question as there was no Q9 in the quiz! :?. Oh dear :).

Oh dear indeed.
A short while ago they reliably informed us that the Hunslet rugby team were formed in 1973, and they weren't referring to some modern derivation IE the Hunslet Hawks or whoever but to the heroes of yesteryears Parkside!

I bet the question was "In which year did Britain have 3 kings?"
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

Good Answer just as importantly it could have been "What year was Volvojack's First Birthday.

The YEP has a 'Monday Retro' feature that has interesting items, often with related photos from various sources. One regular item is a 'Loiners who changed the World' feature and that in today's YEP (Nov 21 2016, page 18) is headed 'Henry Youngman (1865-1930)' of Leeds fish and chips fame. In view of the dates it was therefore very confusing to read "He arrived in Leeds from London in 1855...In the 1940s, he was appointed president of the National Fish Fryers' Association...".

So he apparently arrived in Leeds before he was born and was made the Association's president at least 10 years after he died .

Excellent nostalgic or at least old Leeds items are often covered in the YEP, so it's a shame that obvious errors regularly get through.

PS. Though I don't recall ever eating Youngman's fish and chips I do recall the business, but not where it was in the centre of Leeds.
