Upsate from YMP - 'The trust also tweeted that there was no indication of Kirkgate’s historic First White Cloth Hall being affected by the blaze.'

"Smelt" burning? Smelled, surely? Where's that YEP thread?

Re: White Cloth Hall - part demolition?
Funnily enough I was only thinking as i went past Hills on Thursday morning that in all the years i have been passing it ,I have never seen anyone in there and also how shabby the building looked .I thought it could have done with a lick of paint.
I went past this morning whilst shopping in the market and there was still a cherry picker there plus police car.
I remeber some years back when we were given special Secret Leeds access to the building how it was a real dogs breakfast of buiding styles inside.
I await the results of the investigation with interest.Hope it won't prove to be an Insurance job.

Excuse but looking at the pictures it seems that there are, including the old pub The Scotsman about four buildings and though I have passed them thousands of times I do not know which is the Cloth Hall. is it one or all of them ?. Thank you.

The building is no longer there. It has however been well documented elsewhere.j.c.d. wrote:Excuse but looking at the pictures it seems that there are, including the old pub The Scotsman about four buildings and though I have passed them thousands of times I do not know which is the Cloth Hall. is it one or all of them ?. See the following thread which has plenty of information on it http://www.secretleeds.com/viewtopic.ph ... 8&start=60

Thank you for that info. years ago That building was Walkers who sold clothing with their "Reklaw" trade mark during and after the second world war. there was an alley that divided their two shops in Kirkgate but I don't think it went right through to the back of the Corn Exchange. I think the shop below was for many years a fishing tackle shop "Kirkgate Anglers" with a local lad Bob (?) who owned it

This is the link to the full copy of the report mentioned. It brings up a 17 page document that has further information and images. Oddly it is dated 20 April 2016! http://democracy.leeds.gov.uk/documents ... 080416.pdf

Right, so four months on from the talk of a compulsory purchase to finally get something happening with this place, and it's all gone quiet again. Anyone heard anything?
