Steander was actually the name of a foundry back at the turn of the C.20th. Likely named after "Steander" the street it was on. (check 1910 OS map) THis must have given rise to the area name. I think Phil has some photos of the bridge over Timble Beck that was made by them on a traffic Island somewhere in Leeds.
