Where was this photo taken?

Post by Leodian »

This painted feature caught my eye today (Jan 12 2017) so I took this photo, but exactly where was it taken in Leeds?
If you know please don't give the answer but be cryptic if you wish.

Pure guess - behind the Ivanhoe clock in Thornton's Arcade?
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

Logically, an illustration on the back of a clock would be numbered anticlockwise. I'm not sure if the appearance of exaggerated perspective on that door is real or just the effect of the camera lens. If it's the former, I'd suggest some sort of theatre scenery or stage set.

Hi blackprince :)

I like that guess particularly in view of the clock-like cog wheels, but alas it is not there. Knowing where it is I am not aware of any connection for this artwork being there. Perhaps when its location is revealed someone might know if there is any reason.

Hi jma :)

The perspective of the 'door' art is real and not a camera effect. Unfortunately I did not look that close at the artwork and just very quickly took the photo so I don't know if there is a real door behind. The artwork is though not a theatre or stage set. It can be seen when passing by as long as you happen to be looking that way.

To help narrow down the location it is in the central area of Leeds.
