LCS=Leeds Co-operative Society?

The bricks look a lot more modern than the stones. Have these stones been preserved in a more modern setting?

yes when the original building was demolished, these stones were retained, then incorporated in the rebuild.

That's intriguing! The implication is that the CS is not Co-operative Society. My thought when I first saw this thread was that LCS would be Leeds Co-operative Society, though I've always known it as Leeds Industrial Co-operative Society (such as the very old LICS lettering still visible on the chimney of what was once the LICS laundry on Osmondthorpe Lane). I'm looking forward to eventually see the answer to this thread, even if it Leeds Co-operative Society! :).

I assumed from the open book that this was a school, or similar.

I've no idea where this stone is, but the general design of the lettering on that sort of hemisphere seems familiar so I also assume that it's a motif which appears elsewhere in Leeds. (The owl being the Leeds connection.)

Yes it is a school
the stones, were over the main doors, and incorporated in the boundary wall of the new school.
I think one of the members of this site, attended the original school

Just from the date: Kirkstall primary(1904) or possibly Brownhills school (opened 1905) but foundation stone could be 1904.
