Where is this stone

Post by warringtonrhino »

I found this grave stone when I lived in Leeds. There isn't a name on the stone.
If I had profound thoughts like this, I would probably want to claim the credit. ;)
Obviously I know where the stone is, so please don't spoil the fun by telling everyone else.

Interesting. No idea where the stone is, but the epitaph appears in other places, with different attributions. Seems to appear as early as the late 1600s.

Is it in a Christian cemetery?

As someone who has trawled through many cemeteries in England (looking for ancestors) I have come across many unusual epitaphs and comments etc on gravestones, some are very funny and others plain weird.

Haven't seen this one in Leeds though, and I cannot even find it on the Yorkshire Indexers site neither, probably because there is no name attached.

Here's a weirdo

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

It is in a christian cemetery, and I believe the persons name is in the burial records inside the church.

This is an interesting thread but I don't know the answer, so perhaps it's now time to reveal that.

I found it in St Mary's church in Whitkirk, I was looking for John Smeaton's.
