Wasn't the Griffin a hotel which also had a resteraunt? I seem to remember that it had a canopy that stuck out across the pavement too! One or two buses caught this canopy over the years if they drove too near the kerb!

The sign says 'Chelsea Grill' which I seem to recall was the eating place in the Griffin.

There is enough sadness in life without having fellows like Gussie Fink-Nottle going about in sea boots.

Thanks for that Geordie-exile. Regular Smiley

I wonder what happened to the clock at Boots, at the junction of Boar Lane and New Station Street?

It was probably covered on another thread while I was away a couple of weeks back, but I noticed while passing on Friday that the bar previously known as Bar Censa has been gutted and at least the Mill Hill Corner part has been refurbished more in a pub style and would appear to be reopening as the Griffin.

While researching the above my search also through up this in a list https://www.flickr.com/photos/fawbs/8513237580/

Which I think is the first photographic corroborationf on the thread of the Boots. Note I am in no way suggesting that I didn't believe the memories of posters who stated it had been a chemist.

Nice one tyke bhoy - especially as the "Night and Day Service" signage confirms my memories.

I had forgotten Owen Robinsons and that branch of Thorntons, and have no momory at all of that Chinese restaurant to the extreme right of the picture.
