The map is sideways on to the photo, but the road nearest the camera is Carlton Street which ran right past the Barracks yes Jogon The off licence with the Tetley's advert was on the corner of Hawkins place and Hawkins Street from Leodis here http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... Y=FULL1967 Properties on Carlton Street numbers run from 57 to 65, left to right. Houses have small front yards on this side and also went through to Kenealy Street. Included in slum clearance plans for the Little London area. From Leodis herehttp://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?resourceIde ... SPLAY=FULL

This R.A.F aerial photo shows the bottom half of the area. You can get your bearings from St Matthews Church on Oatland Lane on the map. The 'Colour Works' behind Carlton street is visible - that's where the tower blocks stand today. It seems this area was steadily cleared from the 50's right up to the late 60's. I presume the countries poor economics at the end the war was the reason for this? Full size photo herehttp://tinyurl.com/okp7sb5 Today's comparison location.

It's what has lost Steven Burt and Kevin Grady ownership of their own photo. There are so many 'orphaned works' with no copyright on the internet people just help themselves to as a result. I too know how that feels Thanks for that informative and useful piece of info Mr Wilson

It's actually a larger photo than the cropped version posted above, and the church can clearly be seen in the background.

I wondered where you had been Tasa Thanks for the update, it makes things a little clearer for us. It would be good if we could see the full size version. Copyright and credits added of course
