15th December 1947. Leeds City Tramways Depot at Thwaite Gate, Hunslet. The photograph looks along the yard gates, past the parcels office, to the tram shed and end terraces of Belmont Road.

If the roof line on the right is the Crooked Billet as Leodis suggests then this should be the location of the tram depot as seen today.http://goo.gl/maps/gKLQnA quick 180 Deg spin shows the pub.

Great thread. I cannot make it out so I would be grateful if someone knows what the sign states above the arch in the bottom photo of Jogon's post on 23-Nov-2013 21:45:20. I love the Frog Hall Farm name in the bottom right of Phill's map.

The old Melbourne painted sign looks a good one, and the route 25 another good clue?? The red bus in the background is one of the West Riding central entrance AEC's that replaced their trams, presumably the tram is somewhere on the no 10 bus route between Wakefield and Leeds. Isn't the tram a "Middleton bogie?"

Hi majorhoundii. Tram 285 was an ex-Manchester Pilcher car, eight of which were bought by Leeds in around 1946, and all scrapped by 1954.The seventeen Middleton Bogies were built for Leeds 1933-35 and scrapped by September 1957. They were a larger, flat-fronted tram, carried (as the name suggests) on two four-wheeled bogies. They were numbered 255-271, and were painted blue for many years, hence their local nickname "Bluebirds".

That's a fantastic shot of inside the arched yard kango.I used to frequent the "lion" and "billet" for many years having known a few landlords, friends roundabouts and working close by.I could be wrong but i thought the white building, just immediately down from the lion in uncle micks excellent street shot was in fact the billet. It wasn't far in staggering distance from one to t'other ! In any event.....all great photos and great thread.
