Over Running Roadworks on Clarendon Way

Postby tyke bhoy » Fri 27 Oct, 2017 9:30 pm

Does anybody know when the Roadworks on Clarendon Way will be complete?

They started on 10th October 2016. WYMetro initially believed it was by the end of 2016. This document, http://www.wymetro.com/uploadedFiles/WY ... dworks.pdf , which is updated on pretty much a weekly basis had 30th December as a finish date up to the end of last year. It has since had several changes which I think include two specific, and long past, dates plus several wooly dates e.g. "mid July". For the last couple of months Metro have given up and just put up "on-going".

Both Leeds University, https://campusdevelopments.leeds.ac.uk/ ... d-closure/ , and LGI, http://www.leedsth.nhs.uk/patients-visi ... e-2016-17/, state that the closure is to install heavy duty underground cabling to/from their joint Generating Station. The LGI page which hasn't been updates since December 16 suggests work will tak about 4 months roughly in line with Metro's expectations. The University's page which, judging by its position in a chronological timeline of University closures, looks to have been last updated between mid January and early March, claims works will be completed by 30th July 17!

Interestingly the LGI page suggests the long over-run on these works is having a knock on effect on repair works to the Inner Ring Road which require the closure of part of Little Woodhouse Street currently being used as part of the diversion for access.

Traffic that is being diverted but not via Little Woodhouse Street are the First Bus no. 5 service (aka City Bus) and the LGI/St James shuttle busses. These are using the Service Bus stops northbound and southbound respectively on Calverley Street. Both of these stops are normally only used by one service bus that has only 3 scheduled journeys in each direction Monday to Friday and thus have little affect on the traffic flow on Calverley Street. Unfortunately the diverted vehicles do. The 5 misses out Headrow, West Gate, Park Lane, Hanover Way, Woodhouse Sq, Clarendon Road, Hyde Street and Clarendon Way by going straight up Calverley Street from East Parade. It therefore lays-up for almost 10 minutes on Calverley Street before rejoining its normal route to schedule on Portland Way. The Hospital shuttle which presumably usually exits the Inner Ring Road at Park Lane and follows the 5 route round to the end of Clarendon Way where it decants and picks up passengers, currently exits the IRR at Woodhouse Lane multistory and heads stright down Portland Way and Calverley Street to Millennium Square. If this coincides with one or two 5s laid up then the 3 lanes of Calverley Street are reduced to 1 for up to 10 minutes. It is also exacerbated if one of the 3 evening X41s are laid up at Millennium Square awaiting their scheduled departure time being the route's start point.

I knew that Brunel. Unless it appeared briefly it never has. I started checking there on about a monthly basis when Metro first extended the 5 diversion to a "wooly" date which I think was back in February. But the road remains closed to through traffic.

Clarendon Way isn't an adopted road, which could be why the works don't appear on roadworks.org. Likewise the university and NHS announcements seem to be aimed more at staff than the public.

If you look at the street register map there are other roads around there that are unadopted, despite being outside any university or hospital barriers.

Sorry, this doesn't help with any timescale, but might put it more into context. Possibly the named university project manager is unaware of any problems being caused off site and might be worth contacting.
