Though not directly related to Leeds I thought (hope :) ) this is still of interest. The British Geological Survey (BGS) has an earthquake measuring station at Haverah Park near Beckwithshaw that is near to north Leeds. The station's seismogram for September 8 2017 clearly recorded the 8.1 magnitude event off west Mexico. I have added a seismogram from that station's record. The chart movements record very long period components which usually indicate an event a long way away. Looking at the chart it is no wonder that there was massive damage.

This is a link to the BGS website that has UK recording sites: http://www.earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/helicorder/heli.html
