Post by buffaloskinner »

Thought some people may be interested in attending some of these events organised by Leeds Libraries

Fragments of War: Leeds 1916

We will be commemorating the centenary of the Battle of the Somme with exhibitions and events during July 2016. Highlights include:

Testament of Youth
Thursday 7 July, 5.00-8.00pm. 5.00-6.00pm exhibition, 6.00-8.00pm film screening.
Local and Family History, 2nd Floor, Central Library

A fantastic opportunity to watch the film Testament of Youth, in the historic setting of Leeds Central Library where some of the scenes were filmed. The film is an adaptation of Vera Brittain's memoir about her experiences during the First World War. A small exhibition of some of our WW1 collections will also be available to view. Tickets £5

Lucy Moore of Leeds Museums and Galleries will give a fascinating talk about the WWI artefacts that are being displayed in The Compton Centre throughout July.
This is a free event, no booking required.

Here are the full Fragments of War programme.

Friday 15 July - Leeds Hospitals during World War 1 talk

To add to buffaloskinnner's very useful list of events going on I thought I would post this photo showing part of the display relating to World War 1 that is currently on the ground floor at the Central Library. On the poster in the centre it states "Dated this 20th day of January 1916. Charles Lupton. Lord Mayor of the City of Leeds." I took the photo on June 30 2016.
