An undated old photo in the Western Cinema, Leeds.

Post by Leodian »

This may bring back memories. When just looking through a collection of photos in a 'Golden Age of Cinema. Nostalgic pictures from bygone times' online feature I came across an undated photo stated to have been taken at the Western Cinema, Leeds. It was captioned "The treat of the ice cream lady. The Western Cinema in Leeds was a family run business, with dad on the projector, mum in the box office and their daughter sold ice creams". This is a link to the photo:- https://tinyurl.com/y6pcglhw

Ah yes the need and rush in the interval to buy an ice cream in a tub scooped out with a short 'balsa wood' flat stick! :)

Thanks for the memory, Leodian. We lived nearby in Armley for the first decade of my life - 1944 to 1954 - and I've been here many times. It was on the corner of Branch Road and Beech Drive. There's a view of the outside here from Leodis.

Not to be confused with the New Western which was what they called the Palace Cinema after it was converted into a bingo hall.
