If you feel like enjoying a decent day out and would also like to support a local good cause, why not visit the St Gemma's Classic Car Rally at Kirkstall Abbey tomorrow, Saturday 11th August?

The weather is forecast to be good and as well as the classic cars you can also enjoy the picturesque abbey and grounds.

Wish I had known about this one a little bit sooner, I might have put my classic on display.

I will keep an eye out for this one next year, as it was a nice little show with a nice selection of classics in attendance.

Not the best pictures in the world, but I've put a small set on Flickr for anyone that missed this event this year.

Thank you for posting this one up. Despite the lack of sunshine I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Apologies for the delay, my pics of the assembled classics can be found here: http://snipurl.com/24ms0f3

Good turnout I thought, given the relatively sparse publicity the event seems to have had (most unlike St Gemma's).

It was good to see a wide range of vehicles there - from clearly cherished and cosseted examples that only come out for high days like this, to others that are clearly still in regular use.

I too wish I had noticed this as it is such a good cause. I hope there were more people there than there appear in the photos. It is a bit depressing when cars that I have owned are regarded as classics though! On a similar note, I went with someone to a similar thing near Otley a few years ago, does anyone know what this may have been, and is it an annual event?

We were there relatively early (about 10.15) and cars and the crowds were still gathering.

I know exactly what you mean about the cars that you have owned - several examples of cars I had owned were present, although they definitely had yet to achieve "classic" status when I had them!

Smashing photo set Ravey

Learned to drive in th Triumph Herald, drove lots of old Fords,Austins,
Wolsleley etc.

Nice to see the old Daimler Sports and E type Jags.

On a Sunday afternoon me and my mate used to stare at Appleyards show room wishing we had a car like those.(There wasn't much else to do on a Sunday in the 60's !)

Sorry I could not go,would have enjoyed it.

I hope no-one minds me resurrecting this thread to give notice of two days out where you can help support some very worthy causes while having a grand day out.

Firstly, this Saturday 13th July there is a Charity Car Boot Sale at Temple Newsam to raise money to improve disabled access around the park. We're planning on taking a stall so we might see you there...

And then on Saturday 10th August, the St Gemma's Classic Car Rally returns to Kirkstall Abbey (and entries are still open if you fancy taking along your classic): http://www.st-gemma.co.uk/?page_id=6287

I had a look on St Gemma's website a few months ago and this event wasn't listed. I can't make it this year, because we are going on holiday the night before. Looking at the dates, it does look like it is held on the same weekend every year.

On Sunday 11th August it is Armley Mills classic car rally. Should be quite a good weekend for classic car shows fans in Leeds.

Dave, the Bradford to Morecambe classic car run that I told you about last year, is taking place on Sunday 15th September. This will be the 25th run, and I'm taking part in it this year.

The run should be following the same route for the 2012 run in the link below.
