OK, this is a shameless plug for an event, but it's free & we very much thought it would be the kind of thing that our Dear Readers might be interested in.Treasures Revealed in LeedsSaturday 5th May to Sunday 13th May 2007.As part of the year-long Celebrate Leeds 2007 festival, places of worship in and around Leeds are throwing open their doors and inviting you to celebrate the city's rich spiritual heritage. Whether you are interested in architecture and art, history and heritage or concerts and culture you'll find something to interest you during this week of events and activities. From churches to chapels, Sikh temples to mosques, tabernacles to a stone circle, places of worship across Leeds contain some of its great architectural secrets and gems. This is an opportunity to see the great Frank Brangwyn mosaics at St Aidan's in Harehills and the spectacular calligraphy at the new Makkah Masjid Mosque in Hyde Park. The brochure, produced by the Churches Regional Commission and Celebrate Leeds 2007 gives details of all opening times, and how to get there. Also if you visit and collect a sticker at four of the places of worship, you get a chance to win a copy of Pevsner's Architectural Guide to Leeds, signed by the author - a must for all Urban Explorers! The Secret Leeds Team has copies of the brochure to distribute, so mail us at [email protected] with your address if you would like a copy, or visit www.treasuresrevealed.com for an up to date list of events.
