A BRAND NEW CELEBRATION OF PASTIMES ON BRIGGATE THIS SPRING.Festival of Pastimes - Saturday 10th May 12pm – 5pm, Briggate, Leeds Event in Leeds City Centre celebrating residents’ clubs, collectives and hobbies seeks input and participation.• Do you have a spare-time passion? Do you want to share it with the people of Leeds? Do you want to see and add to an alternative picture of the city?Contrary to popular representations, leisure in Leeds isn’t just about shopping and eating out. There is a wealth of activity that characterises the city, including local history groups, amateur sports associations, art and music collectives and tropical fish societies to name but a few. For a Saturday afternoon these disparate pursuits, unified by their participants earnest motivations, will be drawn together in the city centre for the Festival of Pastimes. ‘The aim is to create a space where people can learn more about the associations and clubs in the Leeds area,’ says the festival’s organiser Andy Abbott. ‘You can also share your own hobbies and interests with likeminded enthusiasts over a specially made board game of ‘Hobby Top Trumps’ and contribute to a map of Leeds’ pastimes. Amateurs of Leeds, unite!’Individuals interested in contributing their pastime, or having their group or collective represented, are urged to get in touch (contact details below); ‘A free souvenir listings directory is to be handed out to visitors and passers-by, making it a great opportunity to publicise what you do and celebrate your spare time,’ says Andy. ‘So put the date in your diary for an unconventional excursion in the City Centre to learn about how Loiners play!’The event aims to: - celebrate the region’s unique character through residents self-organised activity - promote Leeds, including areas outside of the centre, as a place to engage and participate in as well as utilize.
