In response to a much earlier post. Yes I remember the Ioannus. Still have the membership card somewhere. Remember a packed surfer night down there once everyone had a great time but enjoyment was curtailed early in those days as you had to scramble for the last bus home (often shared with the hard nut drinkers and just general loonies) You could of course gamble, stay on and try for the "late nighter" bus.

Left UK to Vancouver , Canada 1969.
Great memories of Mecca , Twisted Wheel, hello Georgie Fame.
Who were those guys selling Sunday newspapers outside train station on Sunday morning .
Steam Packet, Long John Baldry had trouble standing on stage . LJB actually passed in Vancouver after long career in voice overs .
Blessed to grow up in great era , George the manic tailor , dancing on stage with Jimmy James and Vagabonds.
Did I really see Jimi Hendrix in Otley Pub ?
Blue bombers and just crazy fun.
Anyone out there that remembers ?
The guys selling papers were William Druery , Keith Bingham and Colin Vernon who frequented the BG , etc. I remember Frank Richardson who worked at Saxone , always smart. I recall he went to Majorca in 1966 when the first package holidays started. There was a party one night at his gfs place (Sandra ?) and the house was trashed. There was quite a crowd at the BG and lots of slagging off. I remember School friends , Eric Clarkson and Hugh Montgomery. I think Daz lived round the corner from a friend of mine near Dragon bend. There was Barry and Freda too. Lots of faces I recall but cant put names to. Susan Stranks rings a bell. Many others and like you say good times.

Hi Geoff/Scorpio yeah I remember Frank and Sandra. Most of the time they seemed to be arguing and either split up (or about to). In factthey argued so much they probably got married. Also remember Bill and Kieth. Was Bill either in the Police or about to join? I wonder if he ever did?
I seem to remember Tore Gil whose brother (I think) also worked at Saxones.

Hi guys, Inspired to write down a few of my memories. Started going to the "Conc" in late 65 with a friend from school. We had met a couple of girls at the ten pin bowling who had told us it was the place to go. We were from Bramley and didn't know anyone. But I remember quickly getting to know Paul Kondras, Tore Gill, Mick Gallagher, and a few others who's names escape me. We were all the same age and still at school. The Who at the Queens Hall early 66. We all went to the Ionas (Sorry about the spelling if it is wrong) for a while. There was a ten shilling reward for achieving a high score on the pin ball machine, which I won. I think we all started going to the BeeGee so the Ionas period didn't last long. I got my first Lambretta at this time. It was an Li 150. I got my license on the 1st June and a guy driving a van knocked me off it as I was going down Stanningley Rd at the beginning of July. Bought a GT 200 with the insurance money. It was white with an emerald green flash down the side panels. I remember working at Jacksons the Tailors, at the bottom of Briggate, as a Saturday assistant. I used to write down the measures on the MTM forms as the experienced full time guys took them. I think Peter Kondras worked there at that time in late 1966 or maybe I'm confused and he worked at Saxone next door and told me of the job at Jacksons. I was at college by then studying fashion at Hyde Terrace. I used to meet up some lunchtimes with Steve Hodgkinson and go to the BeeGee. I remember he got lunch vouchers from work. The parties when someone would announce where it was and everyone piled upstairs on a double dekker. The fares were collected and 33 x 2d halves requested. An all night party at Paul Kondras's when his parents were on holiday listening to Happy Jack, The Who sticks in my memory. Most times being served in Whitelocks. As long as you didn't ask for halves, especially of mild! Seeing Long John Baldry with the then unknown Julie Driscoll at the BeeGee and arriving home next morning with my eyes feeling like they were popping out and my dad laughing at me. The Drifters at Leeds Uni. Jimmy James on the way to Tadcaster and a hell of a job getting home. Geoff Proctor do you remember going out with a blonde girl who worked at the fashion shop top right hand side of Briggate. Paul Franks from Farsley and Sue Crook from Wetherby I got to know better when I was seeing a Wetherby girl myself. As always life happens and we go in different directions. I married in 1970 and moved to Glasgow in 1973 and Wales in 74 where I still live.

Just read scorpios post about the infamous Frank Richardson. The holiday he went on was in August 1968 and myself (Steve Hodgson) and Russel Wagstaff went with him to Cala Ratjada Mallorca. We flew from Luton airport and stayed in a hotel not far from the sea, they were still building the beach ! Met a lot of German girls and had a great time.
