The Prince of Wales visited Leeds in 1868, there are mentions of a triumphal arch & large crowds etc in 19th century newspapers ????

The grand staircase is probably in the brand new Leeds Infirmary building which was used for the 1868 exhibition.

I'm a bit puzzled by his reference to "luminated cars". I can only think this refers to illuminated tram cars which were often used in Leeds to mark state occasions from 1902 to 1957.

The first illuminated tram was used to celebrate the end of the Boer war in 1902 and coronation of Edward VII

They really went to town on the illuminated tram for the royal visit in 1908 (which he wouldn't have seen if he emigrated in 1906)

The 1908 royal visit also included triumphal arches
