I was wondering about the big Eagle that used to be on top of the pole outside the Eagle hotel near York road. I know it was salvaged and i seem to recall reading it was in a car showroom in Hunslet.. I noticed this big eagle in a builders merchant yard on the A64 not far from the red bus cafe and wondered if it could be the same one. Any ideas guys??

I know the garage mentioned on Hunslet Road. It is the one just past the Baptist church as you head out of Leeds. i have noticed their eagle (actually I have a vague feling they have two statues, must look out of the bus window on my way home tonight) but I didn't think it resembled the Eagle Tavern one. I used to drink in the Eagle back when CAMRA owned it (ah,happy days) and I would say that the one in the photo above is the Eagle one , or a close copy. it is not the Hunslet road one.

Ok Steve. Excuse my rather thick appearance here, are you saying my photo is the real eagle from the Eagle hotel pole on York road then?? I don't mean the Eagle tavern on North street b.t.w. I know they have a big eagle in the entrance too!

There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

Ok Brandy great stuff. Good find with the archive pic too. I was looking at the one i got thinking it looked a bit new. I used to pass the Eagle all the time & never really took much notice of it then.

The eagle on the Hotel was in a rather more upright or, rampnat pose as I remember. There is a picy on Leodis but you need to enlarge it to get the idea.http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... ifier=4269

i thought it was the one from the Eagle (not the North street one). I looked at Eadle garages one on my way home but it doesn't seem to be how I remember it.

How true.
