As kids this one, Molly Geldards, had the best penny tray around. Also there was Barkers opposite Armley library, and Rene Pages at the other end of Mistress Lane.

carrotol wrote: I tried both sites that liits mentioned hoping to find some sweets I used to buy, Licquorice and violet pills, but no luck.I remember that there was a sweet shop on Stanningley Road, just down from Armley Park when were streets between there and Armley Park School. There was also Gilliots on Wesley Road, although he sold tins etc aswell, he had a vast amount of sweets squeezed into a small shop. Mr Gilliot used to wear a raised boot on one foot and told kids that was where he kept the smarties. And we still used to buy them. He also used to pay me four blackjacks for pulling grass from between his flagstones. Child labour? I didn't think so, I used to pray for the grass to grow Hi carrotol have you tried thesweet memorys shop thats its name i think they stock a lot of old type sweets its on the way up from low town on the right opposite the town hall in Pudsey next door to coop travel.
