Spotted Dog Inn, 58 Church Street, Hunslet

Post by Jasonb »

Whilst researching my family history I discovered that my great great grandfather (Joseph Tomlinson 1846 - 1919) was the landlord of the Spotted Dog from 4 May 1894 until his death in January 1919. Before moving to the Spotted Dog he was landlord of The Prince of Wales, 17 Marsh Lane, Holbeck, Leeds between 1 August 1889 until 3 May 1894.

I am trying to find any information and pictures of these pubs during the time Joseph was there. I have one picture of the Spotted Dog but this was taken in the 1970's when it was derelict.

It may only be a coincidence but within a year or two of Joseph being at the Pow, there was a Mosby [James Mosby] at the Queens Arms, Marsh Lane. I can't find any relationship between James and Anna, your G G grandmother, but Mosby isn't a common name - even amongst publicans.
