AY=FULLThe two marked in blue are the White Rose [built since the map was done in 1908 and now closed] on Tong Road, and the much rebuilt Crown [also closed]. The Crown, which for many years around the turn of the century was owned by the Whitelock family, underwent a major rebuild in the 20’s and then again in the 30’s. Permission for material change to the premises was granted in 1925 and renewed annually until 1930 when the Justices got cheesed off and at the 1930 Brewster Session, only renewed the license on two conditions 1. That building work started AT ONCE! or they would not renew the license. 2. After having been caught by the police having a naughty lock-in, that drinking be confined to the ground floor of the premises.
