I found out at the weekend that an Uncle of mine once ran the Mulberry pub in Beeston back in the 50's, his name was Howard Walsh and he ran it with his wife Elsie, they also had a son called Brian. My Grandfather James Fawcett used to play the piano in there on a Saturday night apparently and I spent yesterday trying to work out exactly where the pub once stood as the area has been re-developed over the last 50 years or so. It stood somewhere on Folly Lane, here is a picture from Leodis. If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated.http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 0_78734988

It would appear the numbering convention on Beeston Road is to ascend towards Leeds. That being the case this http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 0_97611636 suggests it is on the left going towards the top of Crows Nest Lane past the Coop (193) (Rawcliffes by the park is 233). However after the Shopping Centre it does become Town Street?? The fact the image suggests somewhere that is reasonably flat does support my theory that it was where the relatively new council housing is beyond the White Hart but the White Hart is 43 Town Street.

Hi EdgeyThe block of low rise flats in the background of the Leodis picturewere knocked down just a few years ago. However if you go to multi map,put in Folly Lane,Leeds, zoom in and select aerial option you can still see the low rise flats (theres 2 blocks on the north side of Folly Lane.),obviously an old picture. On the south side of Folly lane, opposite the left hand block,is some open land,i guess thats where it was.Id put a link in but theyre not working

The only Mulberry Pub was on Hunslet Road just past Jack Lane on the right hand side going out of Leeds,Still there this detached building was a strange layout for a Pub, inside as it was on two levels. Think it is offices nowadays. Years ago it was run by Ernie and Molly Shackelton who before that had the Junction Pub on Dewsbury Road (opposite the Police Station) for many years.

As for Folly Lane unless my memory is playing tricks there was never any Pub on there.

(Is seven years a record for a reply)

Your mind is playing tricks jack. Two pubs stood on Folly lane The white house being one and the Mulberry "TREE" being the other. The one on Hunslet road being called just the Mulberry.

Oops . Had a look at the Mulberry picture and it looks a very distinctive pub, although that was not my area for boozing I can not bring this one to mind. do you know when it closed / demolished.
As for the White House well my brother and I spent a fair few happy hours in there, all the people I knew referred to the White House as on Lady Pit Lane though really I guess it was on both. strange shaped pub with mirrors placed so that when a "Turn" was on the tiny stage every body sat down could see them. Ronnie Hilton (Adrian Hill at the time) used to sing some evenings there as he was also singing with a band upstairs at the Plaza club higher up Lady Pit Lane. (when he got on stage we left)

There was a Pub on Beeston Hill on a parade of shops that was similar to that sort of timber clad pub like the picture but I cant remember the name.

The area was slum cleared around 71-72 so probably about that time .

As for the pub on Beeston Hill I think you may be referring to The Duke of York.
