This is a quick photo that I took when passing by today (June 13 2014). There may not be much immediately obvious difference compared to the photos that I took on June 3 but note that the interesting looking internal flues (?) that were to the top of the other photos have now been demolished.

An interesting series of pics, Leodian - thanks for posting.

I wonder if the plan is for this demolition to be completed before 'Le Grand Depart', or if the worlds TV cameras are going to show Eastgate in a semi demolished state?

Cheers raveydavey. Regular Smiley That's an interesting point about the demolition state.

Seeing the site as it is now just reminds me of how fine the nice symmetry at that end of Eastgate did look. I'm unsure as to what are the plans for the opposite side of Eastgate. The Victoria Gate illustrations look good and that centre will hopefully be a good replacement.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but apparently Leicester University are going to do a study on the disappearence of pubs, concentrating on Leeds.

That's an interesting project by Leicester University through English Heritage.

If it was done by Leeds University (or whatever that's called now!) would it be a 'local' project. Tongue

University of Leeds to be 100% accurate but Leeds University would probably do. Are you being confused by the recent appearance of Leeds Trinity University (formerly Trinity and All Saints College) because you could become even more confused when Leeds Metropolitan becomes Leeds Beckett University in September http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/latest-news/top-stories/leeds-metropolitan-university-to-change-its-name-next-year-1-6261678

The Old Mason's Arms in Oulton (or is it Woodlesford?) is To Let, and appears to be a bit hit and miss about its opening hours at the moment.

Whilst we're on the subject, I've always wondered why The Old Mason's Arms is a modern building, dating from no earlier than the 1980s at a guess, whereas The New Mason's Arms, some 400 yards away, is a much older building. Was there a pub previously on the OMA site?

Edit: already partially answered my own question here. Some interesting old photos

The older I get, the better I was.

This name came up in the Lost Leeds Pubs thread back in September 2007[page 22, 11th message].

She was obviously referring to the Original building circa 1920s. Regards Jack Daly.
