Maybe the "Crypt" became was was known as the "British Restaurant" under the Town Hall during and after the War. (we were never that rich to be able to afford to go in any restaurants so sorry if that info. is vauge.

The crypt is still there, but just as a large empty room. Can be used for exhibitions.

I used the "British Restaurant" under't Town Hall frequently when I worked in the City Centre in the late 50's. It provided a very good dinner at a very good price for 'umble office boys like me. Then the ubiquitous Chinese restaurants began appearing and eating habits changed - four bob for a four course meal, where did those days go? Oh, humm.
