There's a Black Dog Inn next to the mills that you can see on the attached 1:500 map from 1891. I think it was an Albion House that closed almost exactly 100 years ago on the 4th of April 1914, according to http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... eadID=5008.

It was a Tetley pub along with its neighbour the Fishermans Hut which although no longer a pub the building still stands. Here is a link to a photo of the Black Dog pub :http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... Hi Tackler,Sorry I dunno how to lift abstracts of Maps and put them on here, but the 1893 OS has..Leeds Parish Church RFC ground Clarence roadArmley RFC ground Pasture HillsWortley RFC ground Oldfield Lane.....If anyone can show you these on here - stands 'n' all, I'll dig more up. This is fascinating stuff which I will pass onto the group putting together the Leeds 150 exhibition in the Library scheduled for April. They hope to have maps of where rugby was played in Leeds to go alongside the 150 images. Should be good!

This was close to east Leeds ARLFC's ground. It's just my guess this was the "White Horse" ground, anyone got any other ideas based on the pub name and "Saville Green"??

I'm probably out of favours with Uncle Mick, but do ask him for:-1893 Holbeck RFC ground "The recreation Ground" Brown Lane along which there was a long stand.1893 Kirkstall RFC ground "Clarence Field". easy one for you Chiron you may have had a game there yourself......But not in 1893!!

I only guess it was on the "cricket and Football Ground" on the north side of Woodhouse Lane. They also played on "Royal Park" within the botanical gardens maybe on a cricket ground again - I can trace Victoria Cricket Ground.I don't have any OS map access for Royal Park but the club were usually there from 1872 until the area was given over to housing c. 1888 - That's when I have no access to OS!

It's speculation on my part but I wonder if the White Horse ground could be the Football Ground that is marked on this 1891-1893 1:2500 map taken from the excellent Old-Maps UK website. The ground is close to the "P.H." which will be the White Horse pub. The ground does not appear in a 1908 1:2500 map in the Old-Maps UK website.
