The following is reported in John Mayhall's 'Annals of Yorkshire' on today's date (June 21) in 1872:-June 21 1872. "Roundhay Park, Leeds, was secured for the inhabitants of the town. The Committee of the House of Lords to which the Improvement Bill was submitted, and which was called upon to pass judgment on the unexpected opposition to the purchase of the Park, unanimously declared the preamble of the Bill to be proved."
