LS1 thanks interesting read.(to quote yours:-)FEARN’S ISLAND. Named after the owner of Nether Mills . It is an area between Timble Beck and the river Aire. The Royal Armouries Museum overlooks the site. In the twenty-first century many of the mill buildings here have been redeveloped as apartments.I've only ever known 'fearn's island' as being the former Sea Cadet/Canal Lock. Indeed I suppose that after the becks were culverted it acquired the name by default.Maps still show Fearn's Island as being the "non-island" area on the north bank of the river slightly NE of the Leeds Locks.I think this is it (1910 map above red cross)

Can't help Chrism I'm afraid....Jogon, looking at your map I can see Steander also. There is a Steander St & Steander Mills. What came first, the mill, street or area name??! Who knows.
