strange creature nr scott hall road late 1960's

Post by fearnville »

My brother in law lived nr scott hall road meanwood, he tells of a siting of a strange creature at the beck close to his house.
My sister was with him at the time and she confirmed it.
it was crouching over the beck and was on it's haunches.
I wonder does anybody have recollections of something similar, it wasn't a dog, much bigger and hairy, pointed type of head.

Small deer can make their way down meanwood valley as far as buslingthorpe. A couple of years ago an idiot was taking pot shots at them from the prince Philip playing fields. I've seen a couple on the ridge.

In the late 70's when we ran the Ring Road 8/9 service there used to be a naked male runner on the Ring Road at Moor Allerton which we saw on a regular basis. Not a pretty sight I can tell you.
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

more information on the sighting. circa 1965/6.
My sister & Mike were walking west down a trail through rhubarb and vegetable fields. Beckhill.
hunched and crouched at the side of the"stainbeck" was a four limbed creature Whitish grey fur. They were both petrified as it turned it's hideous face towards them. they ran through the ginnel across stainbeck road into the stonegates council estate since demolished and replaced.
They had been to visit Mike's Grandma who was living nr Scott hall road who died shortly afterwards. Mike wonders if it was some kind of banshee? He also says he saw it on a previous occasion when he was sledging down the hill with a friend, 2/3 women were walking the trail they also saw it and all were puzzled as to what it was. He is now almost 70 years old and he and my sister are very clear what they saw.
The beck has since been enclosed in a culvert under a footpath heading towards Potternewton lane
