bus timetables & Blackburn's

Post by The Parksider »

Dumb question

The Leeds otley bus along the main Otley Road is timetabled to stop at the Police Station in Lawnswood and again at Breary road in Bramhope.

I assume it stops at all the bus stops inbetween?? Anyone confirm this and the stops inbetween.

Much smarter question

The YEP refers to Blackburns plane making factory in Leeds but doesn't seem to bother to I.D. the location, lazy stuff. Where was it?

From the Leodis photo site
Robert Blackburn was the son of George Blackburn, works manager for Thomas Green, Smithfield Iron Works. He was born 26th March 1885, formed Blackburn Aeroplanes at 18 Spencer Place making monoplanes at a cost of £500 each. In 1911 he built the Mercury Plane at Hunslet premises on Balm Road, which was the former Midland Railway stables. It was called the Blackburn Aeroplane Co, becoming a limited company in 1914. The Admiralty ordered 12 BE2c planes which were produced at the Olympia Works. This was a former roller skating rink on Roundhay Road, Soldiers Field was used as a test ground. After 1918 this was no longer used, Blackburn moved most production to a site at Brough in 1929.The factory opened again in 1936 but finally closed in 1946, there is a supermarket on the site now.

Many thanks

Any location for the Olympia works - I'll look for it but if anyone has it off the top of their head!

Olympia Works was where TESCO is now situated on Roundhay Road.

There is a blue plaque to the RHS of the entrance.

Brunel got there first but Olympia works from http://loveoakwood.co.uk/homepage/love- ... pia-works/

The house at the rear on Gledhow Wood Road is still there if you convert Brunel's link to Sattleite view.

A simple answer to your question is yes it does. Note the pick up / drop offs on time table.

Here is the link to the timetable for the X84 https://www.wymetro.com/site/handlers/b ... =x84&code= .

i.e.
E Limited Stop service. Will not set down before Weetwood Police Station to Skipton.
F Limited Stop service. Will not pick up after Weetwood Police Station from Skipton.
G Also runs Bank Holidays.
SH School holidays only
Sch Schooldays only
I Times of these services vary during University Holidays. Please contact Metro for details.
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

If you are going beyond Otley be very sure that the bus you get on does not terminate at Otley. As they all say X84 you have to be sure to look at the destination stated. It can be a confusing service in that X84s from Leeds can terminate at Otley, Ilkley or Skipton!
