Mad Harry

Post by valetta varsity »

He was my Grandfather Harry Garner, he was a Tram Driver in leeds circa 1912 etc, he used to knock off the electromagnet control on the tram when going downhills picking up speed quickly, people used to stand back and let him go by in some instances, he served in the Trenches with the Cheshire Regiment was badly gassed and came home to recuperate, my grandma had a newspaper cutting of his homecoming for years, needless to say its lost, I would be grateful for any information please, its my first post on this exellent forum

You should try checking the British Newspaper Archive - it has hundreds of different local newspapers going back hundreds of years in some cases.

Also have a look for his war record on Ancestry.co.uk or Findmypast.co.uk - don't be disheartened if you can't find him though, as many of the records were destroyed in bombing raids during the Second World War. Even so, his medal card should still exist, and this will tell you where he served and when.
