Hunslet Engine Company Anniversary

Post by buffaloskinner »

Taken from South Leeds Life

Many local people worked for the Hunslet Engine Company in Jack Lane, which finally closed its doors in 1995.

The Middleton Railway and Schneider Electric are pleased to announce a weekend of celebration over July 18 and 19 to commemorate the achievements of this company and its employees. The railway will host a gala event with several Hunslet locomotives returning to the city for the first time since they were built.

We are particularly interested in hearing from ex-employees of Hunslet who we’d like to invite to a special opening event. If any of the blog readers worked at, or know somebody who worked at, Hunslet Engine Company then please contact us at [email protected] or at the Middleton Railway on 0845 680 1758.

If you know anyone who worked there please pass on these details

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Thanks for the heads-up.
I've made a diary note of this event.
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!
