Not sure if Blakey will like this given his dislike of advertising liveries, however Arriva are celebrating 110 years by running a specially liveried bus on their flagship 110 route

The actual buses that ran on the West Riding route 10 between Kettlethorpe and Leeds were red. As Blakey says they replaced the trams and because of this were painted red. They were AEC Regents with a centre entrance Roe body. When these were replaced by the ill fated Guy Wulfrunians, those that ran on the former tram routes kept the red livery.

Resurrecting this old thread as it looks like the 110 started before it was a tram. Apologies because its only 100 yards from my home in Wakefield but it is at least Leeds bound. It was posted yesterday on the facebook Outwood network groupImage

PS as a follow up to the discussion on this thread viewtopic.php?f=27&t=5982 about railings due to damage to those adjacent to Old School Board on Great George Street. The wall to the right is still in situ but the railings are long gone

Sorry to go off-topic but the picture just made me nostalgic for the magnificent Tetley shire horses that used to be regularly seen in the centre of Leeds coming from and returning to the brewery :).

I quite agree Leodian - I''ve always admired "working" horses for being the handsome and dignified animals they are. Whenever I'm near the outbound bus atop in Abbey Road (opposite Kirkstall Leisure Centre) I always glance towards the yard which was the Leeds Tramways horse stable and which is still in use for various small businesses.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
