Is there any traces of Leeds tram & rail history buried and long forgotten still out there? I know the old Marsh lane station platforms still exist 49yr's after it closed.

Here's a nice example of a wooden semaphore signal from steam days slap bang in the heart of Leeds

There are loads of partially exposed tram lines hither and thither and of course all of the reserved track beds are are still there cleverly disguised as grassed verges in the middle of main roads like Gipton approach and York Road, ironically now a guided bus track, and princess avenue at roundhay, not forgetting the still intact tram terminus at roundhay park complete with overhead wire poles. There are still tram related buildings around Leeds, Guisely tram shed is still standing and the wonderful power generator hose on kirkstall road is still resplendent, you could always have a look down a hole in the road during roadworks, nearly always unearths tram tracks, bring back the trams thats what i say!!!

Yes the old tram lines occasionally do resurface when the roads been dug up. You could see the tram tracks alongside the Lowfields road stand at Elland road untill a few years ago. They'd also become visible going into the old tram shed on Stanley road next to the Dock green pub untill the yobs set it on fire.

Lowfields road was the final resting place for a lot of trams in the 50`s, they were scrapped and burned there, terrible shame.

I see you know your stuff about the old tramways Loinerpete. You've either been lucky enough to remember the trams in action or you've been looking at the same books as me. Yes the Lowfields rd scrapyard was where they burnt some trams bought from London & they never even used them! I've plenty of pics munki but they seem to take a while to be approved before there added to the site

Slight teething problems possibly on a website that is only a day old (but with 50 registered users already!). Bear with SecretLeeds. Keep posting!

This is arch 99 under the city station where a single track run out of the back of the Queens hall tram depot into a squalid yard & under the arches were they kept the less glamouress Leeds tram cars, It was a desperate place by all accounts with rats & mice flourishing

I was only a year old when the trams stopped Phil d, but it was my passion as a kid along with Revies Leeds United, i also have a passion for Leeds City Transport buses of the 50`s and 60`s, especially the Roe bodied ones, i was lucky enough just before Christmas to ride on this beautiful 1959 Titan pd3, she is alive and well and running around essex of all places and she is lovingly cared for, i wish i could buy her and drive her bacl so that i can criuse the streets of the city where she was born. This pic was taken a few weeks ago.
