I get the feeling the Council are completely clutching at straws here, they seem so desperate to have some kind of transport for the city they can call something different, they know they've badly let this city down, and have to be seen to be doing something/anything.

They seem blind to what this trolley bus can offer, or in reality can't offer. It seems like panic management to be seen to be doing something for the sake of it, irrelevant if it's any good, and how much money will be waisted on the rubbish.

Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!

I've just been sent a most interesting little DVD clip of a proposed mode of operation from Siemens - one of the major European manufacturers of transport equipment and vehicles - top quality too.

Not to digress far from the Leeds question, but the scheme illustrated does have a certain similarity to the Tilling Stevens petrol electric vehicles of almost a hundred years ago. These were in vogue when some tramway systems were being superceded and were popular because the buses were easier for former tramway drivers to handle, having no clutch or gearbox - the petrol engine (front in those days of course) was connected to a dynamo which drove the electric traction motor. They were quite widely used in the 1920s/30s and were very successful.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Now lets not be too hasty here - The trolly bus scheme is going to be a real requirement, especially if First invest in any more of the Hybrid Gemini's.
After all there are already reported cases of members of the fleet being run almost constantly on diesel as their batteries are starting to fail in service I.E. not holding charge for very long etc.
At least if they stick a pair of trolly poles on the roofs they can charge the batteries in service lol.

And another thing, I cant wait till i'm first in line at the corn exchange, stopped in the middle of the road to discharge my passengers and one of the trolly buses attempts to squeeze past me and in doing so ventures just out of the reach of the wires LOL.

I've yet to see anyone have anything good to say about this ''off your trolley'' scheme for Leeds.

I tell a small fib, there is ONE comment in the Y.E.P that thinks they are ok, all the rest are full of ridicule, contempt and total scorn for it

How come L.C.C are so out of touch with this?

It seems that the city council are appallingly out of touch with everything. I got a little bit involved with the elected mayor campaign and the pro argument, from a couple of reluctant councillors, seemed to be that it would make the city more attractive for investment. Not for its inhabitants, apparently. But then again, we need to tell the council what we want or they won't pay attention. Turnout in the local election in May was, like almost everywhere else, 31%.

The trolleybus plan has gone very monorail, not least because the North Line has lost a lot of its purpose if Bodington Hall is closing, and there's no good reason to run trolleybuses on the Park and Ride. If Metro succeed being able to manage contracts, they may be able to get a service provider who can run services on those routes without First's constant excuse making and need for capital expenditure like the guided bus lanes.

Given the go ahead today, where do we object to this.
