It's a bus with unneccesary infrastructure.

What right minded professionals would contemplate building a system which has never been successful in its entirety anywhere. A bus with a a electric motor. Oh! could we achieve this without the massive infrastructure needed, something like a hybrid that the make nowadays, na too simple. Get real this is a 21st century city, we need an integrated city wide transport system which meets the needs of commuters and business alike. My councilor is going to get some earache from me. Why do we let lay men make decisions like this. (rant over)

Glad everyone had a trolley good laugh. There even making the awful addition to the 3 letter acronym. Worsts FTR (Far too Ridiculous.) Now it's NGT (Never Goes There.) So if you live in the Holt Park to Stourton area's get ready for years of disruption. Why is this worse than a hybrid bus.1. Power supplies for the overhead lines. This will require sub stations, neutral sections and a grid control. Roads with masses of services dug up to put in more cables. More for signalling and more for all the repairs when gas, water and electricity are damaged.2. Overheads need supports, more road furniture! 3. Seen the route So Millennium Square will have to be dug up to have this run, against traffic along Cookridge Street. DOH! In the centre it will run against traffic and cause chaos! And is Leeds University and Leeds Metropolitan University going to pay for this chaos. It seems it is just for students!!4. Signalling. This will require new signalling to be installed and a control room for the system. Plus the usual helpdesk for all the systems installed. Crazy... really crazy... Pass me my jet pack please...

If trolley buses are so good, why have Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Croyden, and Sheffield not gone for trolley buses instead of trams?Because they have no advantages over diesel buses except they run on electricity, they need double amount of overhead wiring that trams require.I have travelled all over Europe, trolley bus systems are been closed down and replaced with tram systems. There are very few trolley bus systems left in Europe.Bradford trolley bus system closed in the early seventies because they could get spares, and also because West Yorkshire Metro formed in 1974 did not want to takeover "a none standard system". So they will now will create a non standard dying out system which in 5 to 10 years will not be able get spares.Just heard while typing this, that the Leeds has been given the go ahead for the scheme (BBC)

They'll be like kids who's got a new toy, personally I think they want sacking as not fit for purpose!!

I wonder if the trolly bus scheme goes ahead and then fails if people will be looking back nostalgically to the purple slugs! I think what Leeds needs is a massive fleet of hand powered rickshaws taking people to and from where they want!
