Thanks J.F. Any suggestions & help are always gratefull. I'm afraid i've got to many irons in the fire. I set off with one objective & always get side tracked by bigger fish... I think Tabby has solved my mystery for me.. We seem to look @ the railways as they are today & unless your older enough to actually remeber them in there heyday they can be quite puzzling to how extensive they were! I'll try dig out the map with yards & sidings on i have. I'm sure it will be interesting to people who live in new houses where rails once were.

Extract from 1894 map (rotated by 90 degrees to fit on page!)I've picked out a couple of other minor sidings in blue.

Great detailed map J.F i'll have to get some quality time to look at these better. Just how extensive is THAT?

Good map, i'll say, that minor siding across Moor road looks like the Midland railway link that in years gone by was used to transfer scrap/waste etc from either John kings or Claytons (I forget which) to the main line, by the guys at Middleton railway trust. I was a junior member for for a while and remember the lads holding up the traffic on Moor road whilst they shunted the waggons across. Although no longer used ,I think, the rails should still be there. It would be great if this map shows the area around old run road as i think the the original colliery waggon way ran down that route ( a cracking picture of which can be found on Leodis I will post link when I can remember where i saw the damm thing!!) On top of all that the map shows things I never knew existed like the boiler works chemical works etc a superb find 10 out of 10 sir!!!!!!!!PhillThis also overlays your original google earth picture quite well

Interestingly multimap shows Middleton Light Railway still linked to the Leeds-Castleford line across Moor Roadhttp://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client= ... up.y=5John Kings used to occupy the area off Garnet Road (under the phalic looking cul-de-sac) up to the motorway. I am not old enough to remember if the motorway took land off them.
