Here's another one of Erics great 1970's L.C.T photos http://tinyurl.com/qgyfwld Many thanks Phill for a lovely picture which shows and extremely unusual working - dare I say that the bus is far more likely to be on Hyde Park Circular service 57 or 58 rather than the 56. The top of steep Royal Park Road can just be seen ahead of the bus, 1033, which is one of our large batch of Swifts at Headingley depot. Headingley in the 1970s had only one weekday teatime working on the 56 which was by then a Sovereign Street route entirely. I could have been driving it as I was regular on the Hyde Park Circulars at that time.Just as a matter of interest, the one 56 working was around 1730 M - F from the Bus station to North Lane (Queenswood Drive bottom) - after another unfamiliar assignment from Bus Station 43 to Shadwell, returning 37 route, and then the 56 duplicate journey which was always "full to the gunwhales" as the saying goes. The standees could be seen clinging on in terror after the University as the wrongly cambered (still is) turn into Clarendon Road approached. They had nothing to fear with me though as I always changed down into second and went round the corner gently - the Sovereign Street lads though, well a lot of them (with double deckers) were usually far from being as considerate and used to carry out an unofficial and terrifying "tilt test" every trip, hence the anxiety within !!

I think I have caused the confusion Blakey. I wrongly referred to him as a conductor based on the "fare" incident. It may well have been on a one man bus with him as the driver. Looking at the pic, I can see that the other chap has the leather change bag and cash box and is obviously the conductor. Apologies.

The photo gives a delightful optical illusion too - while the top end of Belle Vue Road IS pretty steep its not as steep as that, and the Swift looks as if its getting in some practice for the San Francisco "little cable cars" as in the famous fabulous song.Bugblatter - please, absolutely no apology needed - and I'm sure you will be right, as BK's appearance remained uncannily unaltered throughout his career - you must have encountered him on a rare "off day" as he was usually very amenable and pleasant indeed.

There are whispers elsewhere on the 'net that a Borismaster, resplendent in green, has arrived at Hunslet Park this week and is set for "trial runs" on Headingley corridor routes very soon.Presumably it's part of Worsts ongoing plans to scupper the follybus?Has anyone seen the new bus or know any more?

Leeds Civic Trust has tweeted a picture of the green Borismaster "lurking in the shadows of deepest Hunslet". As usual, I can't give the link, but go onto The Trust's twitter account and it is there.

Word on the street is that the Borismaster will soon be seen on the 1 route.Which would make sense given why they've brought it here.
