Roundhay / Street Lane History

Hi,

I'm trying to fine out about the history of Earlswood Avenue in Roundhay, when the houses were built and how the area around it has been developed over the years. The shape and width of the road suggests it was at some point a back road for rear access into larger properties on street lane, also the lack of uniformity in the properties on the south side, backs up the idea that these plots have been sold off over time. The semi detached houses on the North side appear to have been built at a similar time around the 50s? I guessing.

I'd love to see some historic maps of the area to give me some clues, I've had a good look through the books about the area in the library but have drawn a blank.

Any maps or info/opinions on the subject would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Steve

Thanks for the link, maybe I'm missing something but how do you know that's 1906? It just say 1888-1913 series.

It's much closer to its current state on the 1937-61 1-25'000 but that's quite a window and a lot has happened since 1888-1913.

There was nothing there on c 1893 o, c1908 or c 1921 maps (these were publication dates and survey was probably about 3 years before) . the c1937 map (again probably surveyed about 1931) gives some structure, the curve off Bideford Avenue and the road off to the east of Kingswood Gardens. there does not seem any evidence that it was just a back road
