Hey Leeds people! I'm a member of a city socialising site, for people in Leeds to meet new friends. The members are mainly made up of people who have moved here for their work (including me!), and there has been quite a bit of discussion from them that despite having lived in Leeds for a few years that they actually don't know all too much about it.I'm planning on arranging a city historical tour, viewing some of the older and interesting buildings/places, however if there are already any known tour maps or guides that I could use this would be brilliant? The only ones I've been able to find are those on the Leeds Gov website which don't seem too good!Any help in this would be much appreciated )

Hi Rob.Good initiative there. As far as i know there aren't any significant hstorical, or any kind of walks/tours around Leeds. We do have a walk once in a blue moon around some of the old Leeds yards. I think Kevin O'Grady from the Leeds Civic Trust does that (once, or twice a year)The next best thing seems to be the new open top bus in Leeds. It's a very poor show for a city the size of Leeds. I guess we've knocked the majority of interesting places down now. There are still a few gems dotted about the City though.

Hi gents, glad to tell you there are walks available in Leeds by trained guides. Leeds City Council trained about 30 people in 1984 as Leeds City Guides. There are only 3 of us left working and I also trained as a Yorkshire Blue Badge Guide and am a member of The Institute of Tourist Guiding. Whenever you have a group let me [email protected] it was I who wrote the opentop bus commentary !

Ken Goor has been doing Leeds histirical tours for years.look in the Tourist information Centre for details of his current ones.He can also be hired for private walks.I have been on a few of his and can thoroughly recommend them.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!
