Bomb Damage

I meant that I wasnt sure if the bomb in park Row would cause the damage that far away on the Headrow, or if it was a aeperate attack, another bomb, or a total urban myth!

They used to (might still have) some of this actual bomb damaged stuff on display upstairs in the city museum. Broken doors, chairs & stuff. There was a small Leeds at war exhibition. That must have been 15yrs ago i last saw that..

It was where the HSBC Bank is now, and was originally the Philisophical Hall, after which it was teken over by the museum. there are some pics on Leodis of the little garden they made there after the bomb, and you can see how the end of the wall was just blanked off and a gap was left between the museum and park row itself.

See the attached Photo. On the right is the buildign that now houses Wagamamas so you can tell just how much of the museum was bombed and subsequently demolished.

this is the area I was on about earlier. Its not a great pic as it was taken ages ago, but you can see the entrance to the library in the background, and this was taken from the headrow. there are loads of pockmarks on the stone that I was told were from a stray bomb....Never knew if it was true though... if any one knows...

I had a look at that today and it certainly looks like the work of bomb splinters to my admittedly untrained eye. And this photograph from Leodis showing splinter and blast damage to the front of the town hall would be consistent with a bomb exploding somewhere near the top of East Parade. It also clearly shows the fencing around a further bomb site on Calverley Street. There must have been two as the bomb in the background could not have produced the damage seen in the foreground. Possibly two from the same plane?

Forgot about the bomb on the town hall. Quite a lot of damage I think, but not in comparison to the overall size of the structure!
