***Update*** With a little more digging, I have found out that in 1880 the tenant of The Sportman's Hall and Nursery was Robert Corkill. It was apparently a meeting place for the local gentry. It faced south and had a large veranda which ran the entire length of the upstairs of the building affording uninterrupted views as far as Morley, Middleton, Belle Isle, Rothwell, Tadcaster and beyond! It looks like it could have been demolished around 1968/9I've also found a black and white copy of a painting of the Sportsman's Hall which is undated. I will try and scan that and put it on here at some point.

Cheers Diamondeyes for that information on the Sportsman's Hall. The painting shows the veranda well. Shame that the painting is not dated as parts of the building seem to me to have a modern look, suggesting that it may have been renovated at some stage particularly as it was there in at least 1850.
