Gipton pit was centred between the area of Thorn Mount between the end of Thorn Terrace and the End of Thorn walk. I have an overlaid map, but you dont seem to be able to postbimages any morunless you have a URL

Hi Zoe,
If you look at the following website, there is an article about 'Waterloo Village' on the October 2018 page and there is a map of many of the small pits in the East Leeds area:
https://eastleedsmemories.wordpress.com/
The map doesn't actually show the Thorn area of Gipton, but Gipton Pit can be seen on some maps on this website (e.g. the 1921 map):

Side by side on NLS Maps shows exactly where the pit was, also a larger map below

As already proven it is still possible to add attachments to a post. You do need to be using the full editor rather than the quick response box through. Just below the full editor are two "tabs" with options as the default and attachments, in green, to the right.

Hello Zoe, I wonder if your In Laws have connections with the Gipton Estate as my Family moved to the newly built area in 1935 and there was a family called Middleton lived opposite us on South Farm Road.
