When I played footy we called that pitch Paschendale. Now I know why!

By the way it was purely coincidental, I was just coming back from Holt Park swimming pool and did a quick "Oh look at the lie of the land there must be a ditch here." Hell Hole is new to me, something new every day!

Here's a 1947 pic of Gipton beck when it was in the open at Harehills Avenue.I'm sure Parksider will find it useful http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... ifier=5155

I couldn't really place the picture on Leodis, it looked too (can i say pleasent a setting? :-)to be running at the backs of the houses on Harehills Ave on the opposite side of Harehills lane past the Fforde Greene. That section you point out was getting culverted by a big plastic pipe on the other side of the bridge on Wellhouse drive towards the spa bath. I wonder if the Leodis picture section has gone underground now too?The new pipe been constructed can be seen herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/428542 ... ecretleeds

can anybody put me right on this?Roundabout 1999/2000 I was in the Wellhouse area working andseem to remember seeing a sign along the lines of Waters Edge or Waterside.Checking my A-Z and google streetview brings up nothing,is it possibly a house name.It seemed strange to me at the time because I had no knowledgeof any water anywhere near there.

Do you mean working in the houses in the well houses? I think a few on GVR have the beck running along the bottom of the gardens so they may have called one house waters edge??
