There is still actually a rather large, windowless, seemingly doorless (at first glance) structure right at the point where this old shelter stood, though built more recently. Does anyone know what it is? I will get a picture the next time that I am passing.

When I worked for an IT company that maintained British Rail computers I worked under the dark arches a few times. If you go in to the tunnels at the back of the Queens there are access points to another floor underneath where a lot of the computer systems are, it's like a maze down there. Never seen any of the tunnels that lead off up to the city centre through, they must be from the queens hotel itself.Regarding the Mill goit - a few people have said that it would be good when they start building criterion towers on the old tram shed as it may uncover some tunnels! I work in the BT building now on Sovereign st which is right next to this area and we have 2 floors of parking underground and I'm not aware of any tunnels that were found when they were excavating this area and the BT building covers from the railway arches across to Sovereign St.

I was walking past on the way to work and the digger was just getting stuck in. Annoyingly the barrier fence is just too tall to see over from the other side of the road, so I can't see if a hole has opened up with any sort of remains.

It's not the old car park by the canal / side of the river which they have started building on, the BT building is opposite the hilton next to the car park where they are going to build criterion towers. The old mill goits must run pretty near to there as they go from the arches near the queens and come out near leeds bridge. Someone needs to get under them arches that you can't really see in to from the bridge across the river (the ones on the right as you look from the bridge in granary wharf)

No - right behind the Civic Hall, exactly where there used to be the entrance to an air-raid shelter...

A bit more of an update on the Civic Hall shelter. There is a gap in the fence in the Civic Hall car park just by where the windowless building is being knocked down. I had a good look this dinner time, and there's definitely foundations of a building below street level. It's quite handy that the road is just next to where the building was, as you can tell easily that it's at least one storey underground. The problem is the foundations look like they are part of the building being knocked down, rather than the remains of the shelter. So, the underground stuff is either part of the knocked down building, or they used the exisiting shelter foundations for this building and just rebuilt part of it. Or both. Anyone else fancy a look and posting their thoughts about what it might be?

I worked at what was formerley Kays mail order in Marshall street Leeds during the 80's and 90's and we were aware of a number of tunnels under the Marshall street site which it was said ran up to Leeds City Station and beyond. I never viewed these tunnels myself however on many occasions over the years the Fire Brigade would use the tunnels for training. Not sure if they flooded them with water or smoke but there could be as many as 15 fire engines on some evenings during training excercises.

The area is riddled with underground tunnels for the streams to outpour into the aire further up! I used to bugger about in them when I was a lot younger and fitter  May still take a look down them in the future!
