Leeds Woodhouse moor air raid shelter and other war relics around Leeds story

Ah, in the grounds of the mill. The one next to the prison isa bit of a non starter as far as getting in would be concerned. Any entrance has been well and truly coved, it would take major excavation work to do so. However, it did partially collaps a few years ago and had to have massive amounts of sand etc poured in to block it off again.

Oh I can view it at home but the kids seem to take all my time up. I can get into flickr but the pictures don't show. It's weird I know.

With a workforce of 10,000 those shelters must have been considerable. I wonder if they still exist? There is a mention that when Burtons closed, the underground shelters were filled with old sewing machines and the like, and closed off. Worth a look?

Thanks there Blackprince.Yes i've just been checking the Burtons thread out.Looks very interesting.I used to live at the end of that end of Burtons, in the Sutherlands.It's all worth looking into
