You can follow a large water main from Victoria Road to Beckets Park. The clue is funny shaped buildings and large gardens. Developers had to keep a certain distance away from the main. A prime examples are the 'diagonal' houses on Manor Drive, 8 Bainbrigge Road, the original St Michael's School, the snicket past Headingley Library, and the Ginnels through to St Annes and the Beckett's.

Love these little snippets of things which are quite obvious - once you're told about them. This would be the reason for the very wide area either side of Barwick Road, east from the A6120 then? Certainly there is at least one large main there, it blows quite regularly - a wonderous spectacle! Not sure why it affects the supply right out to Coal Road/Thorner Lane way though.
