Hi guys, first post here after reading all your fascinating exploits.I know this is probably a well known place but does anyone know what the large brick embankment is on the side of the canal (right hand side if facing city centre) just passed the old yorkshire chemical site? It seems to have a tunnel which runs paralel to the canal with smaller adits which open onto the canal just above the water level.any info would be appreciated.cheersRuss

I think I know what you mean. I used to have pictures if it's the same thing. I've absolutely no idea what & were it all goes. I don't think getting to it is the easiest thing is it?

I walked right past there yesterday. An old workings behind and under the factory Farnells! I think it was part of the old Willson Matheson steel works that was where Farnell is nowadays. Take a look at the photo's herehttp://www.leodis.net/searchResults.aspx?LOCID ... CURRPAGE=1

As there was a steel works there, could it be the ventilation for a forge?? Not knowing how those things work I may be talking total B.. rubbish. I wouldn't imagine how easy it would be to get to either, seeing as it's on private land? I could recce to see how easy it is to get to?
